To continue students understanding of Photography as an artform and develop their own styles. Students will also be given a well rounded experience in Career Requirements and Opportunities in this field. This course meets the requirements for the California Career Technical Education in the field of Design, Visual, and Media Arts.

Course Description:
In Photography 2 students will delve deeper into the technical aspects of DSLR cameras and will expand their knowledge of Photographic Software while producing in-depth projects. Students will work with artificial lighting and learn the field of commercial photography. Students will also work with traditional photographic processed to produce silver gelatin prints.
This course offers students the chance to continue to build on the skills learned in Photography 1. Creating good photographs through the use of cameras, (both film and digital), darkroom equipment, chemicals and the use of photographic software. Students will continue to have fun discovering that there is more to photography than taking pictures of friends and family. Creative abilities and experiences will blend together to produce photographs not normally produced by the average person. Concepts in composition along with the Elements of Visual Art, (line, shape, value color. space and texture), along with the Principles of Design, ( balance, unity, variety, movement, emphasis, proportion, and pattern) will be experienced. Refinements in camera use along with advancing in photographic software use will be covered through a broad range of assignments. Students will also be exposed to career choices in the field of Photography.
Course Policies:
Projects: Students will create a variety of digital photographs throughout the year. Students will also be reintroduced to Chemical Photography and have the opportunity to use a manual film camera, develop film and print in the Dark Room Lab. Reading, Writing, Homework Assignments, and Participation: Students will have in class reading and writing assignments throughout the year. Students will be expected to complete occasional homework assignments , if they are unable to finish during class time. Students will also be given participation points throughout the year. These points are based on their classroom behavior, which includes language, concentration and effort in staying on task.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed using the Art Departments Grading Rubric
Grading:
Projects: 70% of grade. Reading, Writing and Participation: 30% of grade.
Each Project will be worth 10 points following the posted Grading Rubric.
10 = A+ 7 = C+ 4 = F
9.5 = A 6.5 = C
9 = A- 6 = C-
8.5 = B+ 5.5 = D+
8 = B 5 = D
7.5 = B- 4.5 = D-
Grading Policy;
Class grades are my evaluation of your ability and EFFORT, improvement, production, time management, attitude and projects completed according to the assignments.
Late work is accepted. However, late work will have points deducted.All assignments are due within one week of the due date. For each week an assignment is late the project will have one full grade deducted. All assignments must be turned in by the end of the grading period.
The grading policy for Photography at Livingston High School attempts to objective while maintaining a standard of performance expectations for all students. Therefore, student grades are based on the following in accordance with the Art Department’s Grading Rubrics.

Absences: If you are absent, you need to see me upon returning to get any missed work and to see if you missed out on Daily Assessment points.

- Original Ideas: The purpose of creativity is the development of fresh and original ideas. Students are encouraged to brainstorm, push the limits of their ideas and to experiment. Copying other student/artist work or use of copyrighted / commercial imagery is not accepted.
- Following Directions: Often, specific directions are given for the process, technique and finished size. These directions are intended to guide students, giving them a structured work plan and to maximize their success. The instructions will be available in Google Classroom or printed upon request.
- Effort and Concentration: The development of any art form requires focus and self-discipline. Socializing, distraction others, doing other work or a general lack of seriousness and commitment undermine the process. Visual acuity and the ability to analyze shape, size and proportional relationships are important skills that students will use for their lifetimes.
- Neatness and Craftsmanship: All work should be well thought out, carefully execute, and there should be visible pride in accomplishment.
- Effective Use of Materials: In this photography class, students have the chance to work with a variety of different electronic devices, all of which require different techniques, Demonstrations and practice helps students achieve their goal of mastering the materials. Students should be very careful not to misuse or damage any equipment or supplies.
- Turning Work in on Time: Due dates have some flexibility at the instructor’s discretion. I understand that different students work at different paces, that is why I allow for the extension on due dates. However, if work is requested within a specific time frame then t must be turned in on time for credit.
- Individual Progress: Students come to the Visual Arts Department with varying levels of ability, With assistance from their instructor, and peers, as well as serious concentrated practice, all students should be able to achieve some degree of success and improve their skill level.

- Copying other student/artist work or use of copyrighted / commercial imagery is not accepted. It you are caught using copyrighted material or stealing another student's imagery, you will receive zero points for that assignment, with no possible remakes and possible removal from Photography.

- Help keep the classroom and darkroom clean.
- Treat other people the way you would want to be treated.
- Be respectful of others, their property and their projects.
